Health and Safety Policies & Procedures

for Play & Learn Families
Updated May 2021

Thank you for your understanding and compliance as we adjust our policies and procedures to reflect current health standards. Maintaining the continued health and safety of each child, employee, and family is our first and foremost objective.

1. Updated hours:

Play & Learn will be adjusting our hours of operation to 6:30 A.M. – 6:00 P.M. Monday – Friday starting June 1st. We will serve breakfast from 6:30-7:00. If your child is under 2, they will have breakfast in the Daisy room. If your child is 2 or older, they will have breakfast in the Sunflower room. Children will be taken to their room at 7 by their classroom teacher. We will continue to request that children be dropped off by 9:00 a.m. so that we can be sure our staffing is accurate for the day. Please contact the center and make arrangements if this is an issue for you.

2. Play & Learn staff procedures: Updated
Unvaccinated Play & Learn staff will be encouraged to wear a face mask in the building. We will continue to check staff temps upon arrival.Staff with temperatures of 100.4⁰ or higher will be asked to stay home until fever free for 24 hours (without fever reducing medications) and cleared by a doctor. Thermometers will be cleaned between each use. Staff will wash their hands in the main restrooms and continue immediately to their designated classroom.
We will schedule the same teachers in each room as much as feasibly possible to limit contact. Staff who test positive for COVID-19 will isolate for the recommended 10 days.
3. Drop-off and pick-up procedures: Updated
Drop-off: Unvaccinated parents/guardians who choose to enter the building when dropping off and picking up their children are encouraged to wear a mask. Parents must still wash their child’s hands before bringing them to the classroom door. Your child will have their temperature checked at the classroom door.
Children with temperatures of 100.4⁰ or higher will not be allowed in and will be asked to stay home for 24 hours free from a fever with no fever reducing medicine. We ask that you drop your child off at the door to the classroom, maintain social distance, and please do not linger any longer than necessary. If you are not comfortable entering the building at this time, we will still behappy to continue the drop-off and pick-up procedures we have utilized before.
Pick-up: Parents will pick up their child at their children’s classroom doors or outside.
4. Children’s belongings:
We will still be limiting extra belongings that children are allowed into the center. If your child needs to bring extra clothes, diapers, or wipes, please send them in a sealed, labeled plastic baggie and put these items directly to your child’s cubby. Please keep one blanket here; we will not be allowing blankets to be brought back and forth from home. Bedding will be washed twice per week. Please leave an extra jacket for your child here as well if you are able. Infants may still be dropped off in their carriers.
5. Your child’s day:
Your child will remain in the same classroom with the same group of children as much as possible. We will not be combining the toddler rooms at the end of the day. Masks are not required at this time for children of any age. We will help the children practice distancing during meal times, circle times, and nap times as much as we can. All meals for children age one year and older will be plated by teachers and served with disposable plates, cups, and silverware (except for sippy cups).

We will stagger each classroom’s outside play time as much as possible. Our goal is to play outside as much as possible, so please dress your child in weather-appropriate play clothes and shoes. Children and teachers will immediately wash hands upon reentering their classroom. Each classroom has implemented a strict toy rotation policy to be sure every toy gets thoroughly cleaned, sanitized, and dried between use. As per our usual policy, any toy that a child has put in their mouth will be removed from the play area for cleaning right away. All soft toys, pillows, and stuffed animals have been removed from the classrooms, cleaned, and stored for the foreseeable future.

6. Illness:
Please do not bring your child if they or someone in your immediate family are sick, have a fever, or are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms. If your child becomes ill while at Play & Learn, they will be isolated from their class and sent home immediately.
If you or a family member tests positive for COVID-19, please alert us immediately. If someone in your household tests positive for COVID-19 your child will need to isolate for 10days. If your child tests positive for COVID-19 they can return 10 days after symptoms start AND 24 hours with no fever, or 10 days after positive test (if no symptoms).
If there is a positive COVID-19 test in the center, we will post notices on the front door as well as in front of the effected classroom. As per our updated guidelines from DHS, we are no longer required to close or isolate entire classrooms due to exposure.Only the person with a positive test or where there is a positive test in the immediate household will be required to isolate.

7. What to do to keep your childcare providers and other families safe:Model good hand hygiene and germ reduction strategies for your child, such as covering coughs and sneezes, and maintaining distance from those outside your household.Follow current CDC guidelines as much as possible. Consider getting vaccinated for Covid-19.
Thank you for your continued understanding, support, and patience while we work to keep Play & Learn the safest it can be. We appreciate each and every one of our Play & Learn families!
