Health and Safety Policies & Procedures

for Play & Learn Families
Updated December 2020

Thank you for your understanding and compliance as we adjust our policies and procedures to reflect current health standards. Maintaining the continued health and safety of each child, employee, and family is our first and foremost objective.

1. Updated hours:
For staffing reasons and to give our teachers plenty of time to clean, sanitize, and maintain the health and safety of our facility, Play & Learn will be adjusting our hours of operation to 7:00 A.M. – 6:00 P.M. Monday – Friday for the foreseeable future. Further, we will not be accepting drop-offs after 9:00 a.m. The first meal we serve will be morning snack; we will not be serving breakfast for the duration of our updated hours.

2. Play & Learn staff procedures:
All Play & Learn staff will be required to wear a face mask in the building. Prior to entry, staff will have their temperature checked. Staff with temperatures of 100.4⁰ or higher will not be allowed in and will be asked to stay home until fever free for 72 hours (without fever reducing medications) and cleared by a doctor. Thermometers will be cleaned between each use. Staff will wash their hands in the main restrooms and continue immediately to their designated classroom. The main restrooms will be sanitized between each staff member.
We will schedule the same teachers in each room as much as feasibly possible to limit contact. Teachers will pick up meals from the doorway so our food service staff member will not be entering the classroom. Teachers will follow the “COVID-19 Isolation Guidelines” included below if they become ill or are around someone who is ill.

3. Drop-off and pick-up procedures: Updated
While we will do our best to handle drop-offs and pick-ups in a timely manner, please allow extra time and plan for these to take longer than usual. Thank you for your patience while we do our best to keep everybody healthy.

Drop-off: We are allowing families in the building with their children starting October 19th! Families who choose to enter the building when dropping off and picking up their children will be required to wear a mask and to wash your and your child’s hands before bringing them to their classroom door. Your child will have their temperature checked at the front entrance.

Children with temperatures of 100.4⁰ or higher will not be allowed in and will be asked to stay home per the new sick child policy (attached). We ask that you drop your child off at the door to the classroom, maintain social distance, and please do not linger any longer than necessary. If you are not comfortable entering the building at this time, we will be happy to continue the drop-off and pick-up procedures we have utilized.

Pick-up: Parents will pick up their child at their children’s classroom doors.

4. Children’s belongings:
We will not be allowing children to bring any belongings into Play & Learn. This includes blankets, backpacks, diaper bags, sippy cups, toys, and extra jackets. If your child needs to bring extra clothes, diapers, or wipes, please send them in a sealed, labeled plastic baggie. A staff member will bring these items directly to your child’s cubby. Please keep one blanket here; we will not be allowing blankets to be brought back and forth from home. Bedding will be washed daily. Please leave an extra jacket for your child here as well if you are able. Infants may still be dropped off in their carriers; a staff member will take your baby in their carrier to the infant class.
We will not be accepting book, toy, or clothing donations at this time.

5. Your child’s day:
Your child will remain in the same classroom with the same group of children the entire day. We will no longer be combining age groups at the beginning or end of the day. We will limit the capacity of each room according to DHS recommendations, with no more than can be realistically distanced during normal play activities. Masks are not required at this time for children of any age. We will help the children practice distancing during meal times, circle times and nap times as much as we can. All meals for children age one year and older will be plated by teachers and served with disposable plates, cups, and silverware (except for sippy cups).

We will stagger each classroom’s outside play time as much as possible. Our goal is to play outside as much as possible, so please dress your child in weather-appropriate play clothes and shoes. Children and teachers will immediately wash hands upon reentering their classroom.

Each classroom has implemented a strict toy rotation policy to be sure every toy gets thoroughly cleaned, sanitized, and dried between use. As per our usual policy, any toy that a child has put in their mouth will be removed from the play area for cleaning right away, all soft toys, pillows, and stuffed animals have been removed from the classrooms, cleaned, and stored for the foreseeable future. Each child will have a set of art supplies in a plastic baggie that is designated for their use only.

6. Payment:
We are asking all families to switch to our autopay option if possible. Contact the center if you are unsure how to do this. We will also be accepting card payments over the phone. If you must pay with cash or check, please bring it in a labeled plastic baggie or envelope.
Effective September 7, 2020 – If your classroom or the entire center has a Covid-19 closure, affected families will be charged $50 per week during closure. This is an exception to your existing contract on file, which states that payment is due each week, even if your child does not attend, regardless of the reason for their absence. The exception ONLY applies to Covid-19
related absences in which your classroom or the entire center are closed by us because of an exposure.

7. Illness:
Please do not bring your child if they or someone in your immediate family are sick, have a fever, or are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms. If your child becomes ill while at Play & Learn, they will be isolated from their class and sent home immediately. Please follow the “COVID-19 Isolation Guidelines” form included below if your child or family member becomes ill or is around someone who is ill.
If you, your child, or a family member tests positive for COVID-19, or you are exposed in any other way, please alert us immediately. Your child will not be able to return for 14 days if exposed.

8. What to do to keep your childcare providers and other families safe:
PLEASE practice social distancing and keep your social interactions to a minimum. Model good hand hygiene and germ reduction strategies for your child, such as covering coughs and sneezes and maintaining distance from those outside your household.

Thank you for your continued understanding, support, and patience while we work to keep Play and Learn the safest it can be. We appreciate each and every one of our Play and Learn families! If you have questions regarding our policies, please do not hesitate to contact the center at
